Subaru diesel boxer engine unveiled in Geneva

March 18, 2007

The new Subaru diesel boxer engine was unveiled this month at the Geneva Motor Show. While no official power figures were release in Geneva, some speculate that the 2.0 litre turbo engine will produce 163hp and 251lb-ft of torque. The first Subaru cars which will be equipped with the new diesel engine will be the Legacy and Outback and they are expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2008. The Impreza and Forester models will follow on, but the dates have not yet been confirmed.

With the new diesel engine, Subaru wishes to increase its sales in Europe by up to 40 percent over the next three years. No words of a Subaru diesel engine in North America yet.

If you were to introduce a diesel Subaru legacy outback in the U.S., I would buy it immediately. I have a 1998 Legacy Outback, love it, and am waiting until I can buy a hybrid/diesel car to replace it.

i have read the new that this engine will have 150 HP and 349 torque. Fuel consumption in average around 5,7 liters/100 km and acceleration around 8,5 sec 0-100 km/h. (now such acc. has only 3.0 petrol engine)

I have subaru legacy 2006. if it will be introduced in my country i will definitely change for diesel, i like the torque and pleasure of driving with diesel.

and i have read that this disiel will be very quite.
