Subaru B5-TPH At The Detroit Auto Show

January 14, 2006

The Subaru B5-TPH is a hybrid car with a turbo. TPH actually stands for Turbo Parallel Hybrid.

The gasoline engine produces 256 hp and 253 lbs-ft of torque, while the electric motor antes up another 111 lbs-ft of torque. That extra torque is provided by the electric motor at low speeds while the turbo spools up, effectively eliminating turbo lag.

The specifications are very interesting, but I don’t quite like the look of it, especially the rear end. Why must hybrid cars look so futuristic?

I must agree with you on this one… weird ugly looking car it is, that’s too bad because the specs are great.
